About me

I am Poonam Shenoy, a counseling psychologist in private practice, offering a safe, confidential space for individuals and couples to explore their thoughts, emotions, and relationships.

Before transitioning into psychology, I spent nearly a decade in international banking with HSBC across Dubai and India — an experience that shaped my understanding of professional pressure, conflict resolution, and emotional containment. These themes continue to inform my therapeutic work today.

My approach is grounded in empathy, thoughtful listening, and evidence-informed practices including CBT, REBT, ACT, Gottman Couple Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy. I work collaboratively, at a pace that suits you, with a focus on meaningful and sustainable change.

I also work with NRI clients globally, accommodating sessions across time zones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions, Answered by Poonam Shenoy
What types of therapy do you offer?

My approach is eclectic — meaning I don't follow a single rigid method. I draw from a range of evidence-informed practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gottman Couple Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy. The approach I use will always depend on your individual needs, goals, and what feels most helpful for you.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

Therapy can be beneficial for anyone facing stress, emotional difficulties, or significant life changes. If you find yourself struggling with your thoughts or feelings, or if your relationships are suffering, seeking professional support is a proactive step toward understanding and healing.

How does the process of therapy work?

The therapy process begins with an initial consultation where we discuss your concerns and goals. Together, we will create a tailored plan that suits your needs. Throughout our sessions, you will have a safe space to express yourself and explore your thoughts, guided by my expertise. The process is collaborative — we move at a pace that works for you, and the work doesn't stop when the session ends. You will be encouraged to reflect and work on yourself in between sessions, as lasting change often happens in the small, everyday moments.

What are your fees for therapy sessions?

Individual therapy sessions are Rs. 1,200 per session. Couples sessions are Rs. 2,500 per session. For NRI clients, sessions are also Rs. 2500, scheduled flexibly across time zones to suit your location.

I believe that quality mental health support should be accessible. A limited number of sliding scale slots are available for those facing genuine financial difficulty — please feel free to reach out and have that conversation with me directly, without any hesitation.

Do you offer services for couples?

Absolutely. I offer dedicated couples therapy services aimed at improving communication, resolving conflicts, and enhancing emotional connection. Couples can benefit from tailored sessions that focus on their unique dynamics and challenges.

Why premarital counselling?

In India, marriage brings together not just two individuals but two families, two sets of expectations, and often, years of conditioning about what a spouse, a daughter-in-law, or a son-in-law should be. Whether it is a love marriage or an arranged one, couples rarely get a dedicated space to discuss what they actually want — from each other, from the relationship, and from the life they are building together.

Premarital counselling offers that space. We explore values, communication styles, expectations around family, finances, intimacy, and roles — before the weight of daily life makes those conversations harder to have. It is not about fixing problems. It is about starting with honesty, clarity, and a shared understanding that gives the relationship a stronger foundation.

What qualifications do you have?

I am a counseling psychologist with an MA in Counseling Psychology and a PG diploma in Guidance and Counseling with certified extensive training in various therapeutic modalities, including CBT, REBT, ACT, Gottman Couple Therapy and Trauma Informed Therapy. My education and experience equip me to effectively support clients through their mental health journeys.

How can I schedule an appointment?

You can get in touch by filling out the contact form on this website, or by reaching out directly via WhatsApp or email. Once I receive your message, I will respond to confirm a suitable date and time for your session.
